About Cappadocia Tour From Istanbul

WONDERS of CAPPADOCIA

REGULAR TOUR by PLANE and BUS 1 Night / 2 Days

Departures from Istanbul: All days.

DAY 1 ISTANBUL TK 2126 ANKARA CAPPADOCIA

After breakfast transfer to Istanbul Airport to take the flight to Ankara, capital of Republic of Turkey (Flight to Reserve: TK 2126 at 08h00). After arriving transfer to the Museum of Anatolian Civilizations. Ankara, Angora in Spanish, is the capital of Turkey, has a population of five million, making it the second most populous city in the country after Istanbul and is the Headquarters of Turkish Grand National Assembly. In Ankara we will briefly visit the Atatürk Mausoleum and go up to the citadel to visit The Museum of Anatolian Civilizations, considered the best museum in Europe and awarded in 1997 for this reason.

In the museum, the main archaeological findings are exposed, from the Paleolithic to the Roman era, but it is especially important for its very complete exhibition of Hittite Art, which are considered the ancestors of the Turks. The collections that have been found thanks to the excavations in territories occupied by Assyrians, Phrygians and Urartus are also amazing. We will continue our trip to Cappadocia by coach, passing the Salt Lake. We will have lunch en route. We will arrive in Cappadocia in the afternoon. In the evening, we will probably attend an optional excursion of the Turkish Night. We will have dinner and stay the night at the Cappadocia hotel.

DAY 2 CAPADOCIA      KAYSERI      TK 2015 o 2019  ISTANBUL

We will tour the Cappadocia region all day. Early in the morning, we will most probably attend an optional hot air balloon flight. After breakfast, we will visit this fantastic region, considered one of the wonders of the world for its natural landscapes, a mixture of the vagaries of nature and human art. Formerly the Hittites dominated the region; they baptized this region as Katpatuka, which means “Country of the Beautiful Horses”. Cappadocia played a very important role in the spread of Christianity. The early Christians built churches, monasteries, and chapels on the rocks, and painted their walls with scenes from the Bible to decorate and teach the history of Christianity.

Göreme Open Air Museum: Korama was an important religious center in the early years of Christianity in Cappadocia, numerous churches excavated and decorated by the order of Saint Basil the Great, Bishop of Caesarea. It is declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO thanks to the beauty of the wall paintings that demonstrate biblical scenes, which are found on the walls of the churches excavated in the tuff material of Cappadocia.

Avanos: A center of art pottery work since 3000 BC, it is a town where you are invited to visit a traditional pottery workshop, a carpet store where they teach to weave carpet or a Craft Center where you can see the examples of the typical crafts of the region that are resources of the economy of the town.

Pasabag Valley: The inhabitants of Cappadocia needed pigeons and dovecotes, to send messages, to eat pigeons and their eggs and lastly they needed to obtain pigeons as fertilizer to use in the fields or orchards. Therefore, they dug in the heights away from the hustle and bustle of the towns.

Uchisar Village: Uchisar is a troglodyte village located in the center of Cappadocia. It is the name of the huge piece of rock in the city center, which was once used as a castle and watchtower to be able to warn the inhabitants who were hiding in the underground cities before the danger of attack by the invaders. This extraordinary rock is the highest peak in the area after Monte de Erciyes (Argeo).

The Underground City: We are going to visit the Underground City of Ozkonak. The first floors of the underground cities are dug in the 20th century B.C. by the Hittites and last floors by the first Christian communities to use as shelters, they are considered a masterpiece of military architecture with the facilities it proposed to survive during the three months they used.
