Turkish Airlines Resumes Flights!
After nearly three months of suspension due to the Coronavirus pandemic, Turkey has officially announced the reopening of its international flights starting June 11, 2020. This reopening is part of a gradual “normalization” plan that also included the resumption of domestic flights beginning June 1. Now, Turkish Airlines, Turkey’s national airline, has begun charter flights to key countries such as Germany, the United Kingdom, and the Netherlands from Istanbul.
First Destinations and Phases of International Flight Reopening
In this first phase of reopening, Turkish Airlines is operating flights to selected destinations, including Dusseldorf, London, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Berlin, and Munich. The first flight took off at 8:30 a.m. (local time) from Istanbul Airport (IST) to Dusseldorf, followed by other European cities.
Sabiha Gokcen Airport (SAW), located on the Asian side of Istanbul, has also resumed its international flights. Anadolu Jet, a subsidiary of Turkish Airlines, recorded its first flight to London at 8:40 a.m. on the same day, with continuing flights to Amsterdam and Dusseldorf.
Safety Protocols and Preventive Measures at Istanbul Airports
Authorities have implemented strict safety protocols to ensure the protection of all passengers and staff. The main security and social distancing measures are as follows:
- Temperature checks: All passengers must undergo a temperature check before entering the terminals.
- Restricted access: Only ticketed passengers are allowed entry. Companions are not permitted.
- Mandatory mask use: Both passengers and staff must wear masks at all times.
- Social distancing: Markings have been placed to ensure passengers maintain the appropriate distance in queues and common areas.
Rules and Requirements for Turkish Airlines Passengers
To board flights, all passengers must comply with the criteria set by Turkish authorities and the destination countries. This includes mandatory mask use, adherence to social distancing rules, and presentation of valid tickets. Passengers are advised to arrive early to pass security and temperature checks smoothly.
Turkish Airlines’ Plans for Expanding International Routes
The reopening of international flights will proceed gradually, with destinations expanding in each phase. Turkish Airlines plans to broaden its route coverage in the coming months as conditions allow and in line with the safety recommendations established by authorities.
With this reopening, Turkey aims to welcome international travelers confidently, emphasizing the country’s safety protocols and healthcare infrastructure. Travelers interested in exploring Turkey can plan their visit and learn more about the main attractions in Istanbul and other cities, taking advantage of Turkish Airlines’ services.
